Prudence Emery Passes Away at 88
We are saddened to share that Prudence Emery, co-author of the Priscilla Tempest Mysteries, passed away on April 14, 2024, at the age of 88. She was a bright spark and a delightful, witty person who channelled her remarkable public relations career into a series of mysteries featuring her alter ego Priscilla Tempest.
The most recent book in the series, Princess of The Savoy, was published just three weeks before she died. Her dear friend, Ron Base, co-wrote the series with Prudence. Loosely based on her career as a public relations officer at the Savoy Hotel in London, the books offer insight into the inner workings of a major hotel and all the things that occur behind closed doors.
Both Prudence and the fictional protagonist, Priscilla Tempest, held the job as press secretary at the Savoy. When asked just how much they had in common, Prudence would answer, with a twinkle in her eye, that "there are things that Priscilla does that I would never do... and there are things things I have done that Priscilla would never do. I will not say anything else."
Prudence Emery also wrote the bestselling memoir, Nanaimo Girl (Cormorant Books, 2020). A longtime resident of Vancouver Island, she passed away in Victoria BC, her home for many years.
